May 20: I have many things to say, but...

I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.  (John 16:12-15 — New American Standard Version)

Though Jesus had spent more than three years with His disciples, they were still not able to bear or understand all that He wanted to tell them. But when the Holy Spirit came upon them, He would complete the work that Jesus had begun, and the Holy Spirit would guide them into all the truth.

This is still the work of the Holy Spirit today. Through Scripture, of which He is the real author, and through His work in the hearts and minds of His people, the Spirit of God reveals Jesus to them and guides them into all the truth. The amazing truth that our bodies can become temples of the Holy Spirit, that Jesus Christ and God the Father make us their home when the Spirit comes to dwell in us — this is a truth that changes Christianity into much more than other religions. Life turns into an exciting adventure filled with victory, new challenges, and fresh revelations of God's love and magnificence.

It is God's will for you to be filled with the Holy Spirit. This is not an option for Christians; it’s a necessity. We are at war with the forces of evil — the devil, his demons, and all those who serve him. We have to be strong; we have to have the help of God's Spirit. So open your heart completely to the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him first in your life. He is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Seek God’s Spirit with all you have and soon you will enter a new dimension in life!

I wonder… are there things that God wants to say to you at this very moment, but can’t because you aren’t ready to hear them? Do you suppose God is holding things back because He sees that you can’t yet bear them? Do you suppose your life would change if you got to the place where He could tell you all those things He’s been storing up? Absolutely!... to all three.

We need to be filled with God’s Spirit, but even when we are, we need to continue to seek more and more truth from Him. If we ever get to the point that we’re satisfied with life, that will be our spiritual death knell. We can’t ever stop seeking because there’s always more with God. — One huge problem I see with many Christians, is that they have too much peace. They “know” they’re on their way to heaven, and so they don’t fight to achieve much in life or to make sure that their lives bring glory to God. Sure we have peace, but we also need to be frustrated at the amount of evil in the world and be determined to make a difference for God.
