May 3: Crossing over from death to life

I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life. I assure you: An hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. For just as the Father has life in Himself, so also He has granted to the Son to have life in Himself. And He has granted Him the right to pass judgment, because He is the Son of Man.  (John 5:24-27 - Holman Christian Standard Bible)

People say many things about Jesus — that He was simply a good man, a great teacher, a prophet of God like many others, a man of exceptional insight for His time, etc. But Jesus doesn’t give us all those choices. He is either who He claimed to be, or He is a false teacher, a liar, or a madman. Notice these words of Jesus. He says that whoever hears and believes in the One who sent Him, has eternal life. He said that the person who believes in Him has crossed over from death to life. Think about that! Jesus is saying that with Him we have life, but without Him we have death! That is what He means when He says the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and live. The spiritually dead will come alive when they hear and believe Jesus’ words.

I hope you have experienced this for yourself — that you’ve crossed over from death to life. I hope you’ve opened your heart and life completely to Jesus Christ and that the life and light has come rushing in. Everything changes when you have truly given your life to Him. You are a citizen of a different kingdom, a person filled with hope instead of despair, a friend of God instead of His enemy. What happens in your life when you do this is one of the most powerful proofs of who Jesus really is. No arguments or objections by those who do not know Jesus can have any effect on those whose lives have been transformed by His power. They are like men who have never seen the light of day trying to tell you that there is no sunrise, no mountains, and no stars in the sky. We who have been healed and saved and set free by the Lord Jesus Christ have crossed over from death to life!
