May 4: God will rescue you

For we don’t want you to be unaware, brothers, of our affliction that took place in Asia: we were completely overwhelmed — beyond our strength — so that we even despaired of life. Indeed, we personally had a death sentence within ourselves, so that we would not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a terrible death, and He will deliver us. We have put our hope in Him that He will deliver us again while you join in helping us by your prayers. (2 Corinthians 1:8-11 - Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Here is a testimony from Paul the apostle about a great lesson he learned. During a period of extreme hardship and persecution, the pressure was far beyond his strength to endure. He thought he was going to die — in fact he was sure that death would be the end result of what he was going through. But he was wrong; he had been relying on himself and his own strength. God delivered him from that death sentence so that he could continue to work for Jesus for many years to come. Paul, who many times appears to be perfect to many of us, needed to learn to rely on God to a greater degree, that God had power even to raise the dead, and that God would continue to deliver and save him in the future.

You can count on God to deliver and help you too. You may be facing a crisis, or going through temptation. It may seem that there is no escape from your present situation, no way you can overcome. Humanly speaking you have reached the end; there is no hope for you. You may have done everything you could do, and the situation continues unchanged. But all this is only preparing you for God’s miracle! When we are able to handle things ourselves, when everything’s under control, what need do we have for God? And yet, when things are out of control we are  face to face with an opportunity to see something great from God. You are at the threshold of something great when you feel overwhelmed... that is, when you turn to Him for help.

So then, bring the Almighty into your situation right away. Paul experienced a great deliverance from Him, and you can too! Cry out for His help.
