May 5: The Lord is my strength and shield

May the Lord be praised, for He has heard the sound of my pleading. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart rejoices, and I praise Him with my song. The Lord is the strength of His people; He is a stronghold of salvation for His anointed. Save Your people, bless Your possession, shepherd them, and carry them forever.  (Psalm 28:6-9 - Holman Christian Standard Bible)

This is what we all like to experience. God heard and answered David‘s prayer. His heart and mouth are filled with praise to the Lord. He has passed through the time of waiting; he has been patient and persistent — and now God has heard his cry for help. He worships God and his heart leaps for joy, as he sings to Him. What he had always believed has been confirmed once again, and his faith in God as the strength of His people and a fortress of salvation is unwavering. He prays that God will bless all His people as he himself has been blessed.

No doubt you have already had this experience. But now you need Him to show Himself again. Remember, God does not change. Just as He has helped you in the past, or has helped others — He will without a doubt help you now. Just keep believing and continue to remind God of what you need. Be bold and confident like a child with his father. God has already promised to answer our prayers. Jesus said that whatever we ask in His name, we will receive. So go ahead and ask, seek, knock — because God will answer — and you will praise Him and your heart will leap for joy!

Oh the joy of answered prayer! And this is what God wants for all of us. Watch out for doubt; get rid of it as quickly as it shows up. Watch out for negative people; refuse to listen to them. Protect your faith and work on making it grow. God has always been, and always will be, our strength and our shield.
