September 5: Lacking no good thing
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. The young lions lack and suffer hunger; but those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing. (Psalm 34:8-10 — New King James Version)
“Taste and see that the Lord is good” is a challenge to anyone looking for a better life. God’s not afraid to throw this challenge out there, and He doesn’t limit it to certain kinds of people. He’s ready to prove Himself to anyone who’s willing to try faith in Him.
In fact, the Bible repeats this same message over and over again in different ways. In the Old Testament Israel’s mission was to attract other nations to their God. Their abundance, their strength in battle, their health, their protection, their moral standards, and the miraculous works of God were meant to prove to the world that their God was alive. In a world full of gods that were not gods at all, there was one true, living God, and He was good.
Today God wants us to communicate this same message to the world, and the way to make it a reality in our lives is by trust and the fear of the Lord. When we possess these qualities He promises that we will lack nothing. Young lions are the most feared of all predators and are natural-born killers, and it would be extremely rare to see them “lack and suffer hunger”, but God says they will reach that point before people of God. In other words, we will never lack or go hungry.
Do you believe this promise? Are you standing on it and expecting all your needs to be supplied? Are you putting Him first in your life and seeking Him with all your heart? If you are, then God has to respond. It is a promise of the Word of God — not just here, but in many places in the Bible. You will be blessed and your needs will be supplied!
